Definicja zatkania kanału słuchowego

Zatkany kanał słuchowy (z łac. cerumen impaction) to stan, w którym dochodzi do nagromadzenia woskowiny usznej w kanale słuchowym lub jej stwardnienia do tego stopnia, że uniemożliwia to jej naturalne usuwanie. Woskowina blokuje częściowo lub całkowicie przewód słuchowy zewnętrzny, co prowadzi do wystąpienia charakterystycznych objawów oraz utrudnia prawidłową ocenę kanału słuchowego i błony bębenkowej.12

Problem zatkania kanału słuchowego woskowiną jest bardzo powszechny i dotyka osoby w każdym wieku, choć częściej występuje u osób starszych. Przyczyną jest fakt, że wraz z wiekiem woskowina staje się twardsza i mniej ruchliwa, co utrudnia jej naturalne usuwanie.34
